FIFESHIRE VOLUNTEER ARTILLERY Helmet Plate 1891 Siliver metal, Victorian Crowned, Helmet plate. Very similar in construction to KIPLING & KING 832, only the Fifeshire Volunteer Artillery bottom banner and the Victorian Crown. This is the standard pattern with the, LION/UNICORN, buckled circle motto banner with, Coat of Arms in centre, over the Leaf banners with the SPINNING WHEEL Gun. Attached above the gun and between the banners is a banner with,1 ST, periods under S & T, on it The 1st banner is attached with silver and a small crack can be seen to the left of the 1. The crown has been reinforced with silver solder and I would say these done when the badge was issued. 85mm wide by 100mm high. According to K & K, the VOLUNTEER ARTILLERY banner was adopted in 1891, thus my dateing of the as 1891 period.
